El Jardin de Adobe

El Jardin de Adobe is cozily nestled in an olive and pink peppercorn tree-shaded patio just outside Adobe Guadalupe's winemaking facilities. South African chef Ryan Steyn's seasonal campestre kitchen accommodates diners from a rustic tiled counter and small kitchen at the front of the garden. This is where Chef Ryan and his small, very capable staff prep, cook, plate and serve impeccable dishes of grilled meat and European-inspired fare with a Mexican flourish using locally-sourced ingredients. Don’t miss Steyn's beef carpaccio, an incestuous affair that blends elements of carpaccio and its close cousin, steak tartar. The meat is not cut and pounded quite as thinly as a true carpaccio, and in the spirit of tartar, the binding agent is served on the side, a simple yolk inside its shell. Tip it over the succulent beef, and let it intermingle with the Dijon mustard, olive oil, onions, radish and garden greens.
