DUMPLINGS

Typical dumplings are ground meat, vegetables or sweets wrapped in dough. They can be based on flour, potatoes or bread and may be boiled, steamed, fried or baked. They are so pervasive that no definitive history of their invention exists. There are some indications they may have made their way from the Middle East to Asia before appearing in Rome. Northern Europe then adopted them as a cornerstone of peasant cuisine. They are now beloved the world over.
