Margaret’s Café e Nata
This busy Macanese café is tucked behind an alleyway opposite the Grand Lisboa hotel — the grand dame of gaudy architecture that looks like a giant golden feather sprouting up from the ground. Join the long lines to buy a box of a dozen egg tarts. The filo puff pastry base and caramelized egg custard tart is the right side of wobbly and is the perfect example of a local Chinese confectionary doing European pastry. The fillings are on the sweet side - closer to the European palette. Its top is caramelized and burnt the right side of crisp. Eat immediately if you can. It doesn’t taste as good cold or reheated.
