Hofmann

Mey Hofmann, one of Barcelona’s most talented chefs, opened her restaurant and cooking school in the ’80s in the Born district. While her renowned culinary school remains, her one Michelin star restaurant, Hofmann, moved in 2007 to its current location in the Eixample district. Amid a low-ceiling dining room with tiled floor, wood paneling and wooden chairs with black upholstery, diners are served an array of dishes rooted in the Catalan cooking tradition with Mediterranean touches. Some fans believe the cuisine is worthy of two Michelin stars for its fusion of traditional and contemporary culinary techniques, quality products and superb presentations. Outstanding mains range from sardines to pigeon and cod fish to duck, and smaller creations such as nibbles, desserts and petit-fours excite the senses. Fans rave about the calamari with Catalan blood sausage and praline sauce. Dining at Hofmann is a great value for the money. However, if you can’t make it to the restaurant, you can try Mey's creations at Hofmann Pastisseria, and at her casual cafe, Taverna Hofmann, both in Born.
