World’s Tastiest Fried Chicken: Willie Mae’s Scotch House - New Orleans

Willie Mae's Scotch House is regarded as the most iconic eatery in all of New Orleans. Off the beaten path of the French Quarter, it is nestled in the neighborhood of the 5th Ward, which saw some of the worst damage during Hurricane Katrina. Willie Mae's was so beloved, that when it was destroyed in the storm, the neighbors rallied together to rebuild the restaurant. Kerry Seaton, granddaughter of Willie Mae, still cooks her grandmother's fried chicken secret recipe to perfection, maintaining the Scotch House's delicious reputation.

World’s Tastiest Pizza: Margherita - Pepe in Grani, Naples

Franco Pepe, the mastermind craftsman behind the delicious pizzas, has painstakingly perfected his closely-guarded recipe. Combining ancient techniques and ideal flavors, he has created a masterpiece. He researches and studies the ingredients each day, then develops the dough according to the strength of the flour, the humidity and the temperature. The no-fuss Margherita does not over-complicate the process, but focuses on the finest ingredients, expert skills and Franco's passion to make a delicious, thick-crust pizza. With a combination of light dough and local produce, the Margherita at Pepe in Grani celebrates Italy at its best.

World’s Tastiest Dumplings: Sheng Jian Bao - Xiao Yang Sheng Jian, Shanghai

Cousin to the Xiao Long Bao, Shanghai’s home-grown street snack Shen Jian Bao showcases thick, bready buns pan-fried to perfection, scalding hot and flowing with juices inside. The simple snack is elevated to a classic with a wheat dough wrapper pleated around a gelatinous filling of delicious pork that is steamed and then fried in a large cast-iron pan.

World’s Tastiest Curry: Balti - Adil's, Birmingham

Outside of Mumbai, it is Birmingham’s Balti triangle to which curry lovers from all over the world travel to taste this delicious feast. Adil’s holds a legendary spot in curry culture, as it is credited with inventing the Balti curry, the only curry to be invented outside of India. This show-stopping spicy dish with roasted chicken and fresh spices and herbs is cooked in a rich tomato and curry-based sauce. This groundbreaking curry is served hot in the same metal pot it is prepared in with rice or warm naan.

World’s Tastiest Sandwich: Shawarma - Joseph, Beirut

Fans of this classic Lebanese staple head for Joseph in the heart of Sin El Fil in Beirut, which has been serving hungry clients for more than 20 years. Two huge spits of alternating fat and seasoned meat rotate around their center, soaking up the juices while the tender meat cooks slowly. Generous portions of chicken and beef are shaved off their stacks, scooped into fresh pitas, garnished with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, onions and parsley and slathered with tahini or garlic aioli. It’s a masterpiece of flavorful meat, crunchy vegetables, tender bread and the perfect amount of fat and spice.

World’s Tastiest Vegetarian Dish: Misal Pav - Aaswad Upahar, Mumbai

Misal Pav is a popular breakfast dish for the city’s core Maharashtrian community. One of the finest examples can be found at Aaswad Upahar, a 30-year-old vegetarian restaurant in Mumbai’s Dadar. Curry made with mung bean sprouts and pulses is topped with crunchy fried gram flour, farsan, chopped raw red onions and a splash of lime juice. Not too spicy, the dish is best served with pav, a soft local bread. This hearty dish offers wonderful textural colors and contrasts with a flavor to match.

World’s Tastiest Breakfast: Machaca with eggs - La Cocina de Dona Esthela, Valle De Guadalupe

La Cocina de Doña Esthela prepares hearty Mexican breakfasts that are a great way to fortify your system before a day of wine tasting in the Valle de Guadalupe. Doña Esthela is known for several breakfast favorites such as pan de elote (corn bread muffins) and huevos rancheros (eggs with red salsa) and house-made machaca (dried, shredded beef) with eggs. The beef is spiced with serrano chiles, bell pepper and garlic, mixed with eggs and served alongside flavorful refried beans. Breakfast comes with warm, house-made flour and corn tortillas and a local crumbly farmer's cheese.

World’s Best Steak Restaurant: Dons de la Nature - Tokyo

Chef Otsuka selects the best Wagyu beef from the market every day, depending on which of the half dozen top breeds are showing best that day. The beef is dry aged for 30 days and then wet aged for 30 days before being grilled in a custom-built kiln at over 1,000 degrees using Kishu binchotan wood from rare Japanese oaks. The steak is salted, peppered, cooked medium-rare and presented whole and then cut into two pieces, one for each person. Steak purists complain this is more foie gras than steak. So be it. Bring it on!

World’s Best Chinese Restaurant: Sek Yuen Restoran - Kuala Lumpur

Opened in 1948 near bustling Pudu Market, Sek Yuen is one of the oldest restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. The cavernous dining space is filled with black-and-white pictures and newspaper clippings, and the restaurant has gained a loyal following with its no-menu, feed-you-till-you're-full approach. Their signature dish is perfectly roasted duck with a crispy outer skin and tender and succulent meat. The rice it comes with is cooked in duck stock so it's very rich and tasty. Be sure to ask for their home-made sour plum sauce.

World’s Most Authentic Dining Destination: Samm - Madrid

Some food experts claim that Samm, established by Vicente and Carmen Asunción Martinez in 1973, serves paella better than that cooked by the finest chefs in Valencia. The restaurant’s Paella Del Senyoret is a showcase of succulent shelled seafood, making it easy to eat by the spoonful. The rice retains its shape while swelling and takes on the intense flavor of the seafood broth it cooks in. Fans can’t resist scraping up every last piece of caramelized rice stuck to the pan. The consistency of the soft, moist rice and intense flavor from the seafood broth is so pronounced it doesn't even need aioli.

World’s Tastiest Burger: Bleecker Black - Bleecker Street Burger, London

Inside a converted van she called Bleecker St., after her favorite street in Manhattan, former corporate lawyer Zan Kaufman cooks the ultimate hamburger. The infamous Bleecker Black starts with two beef patties that come from The Butchery in Bermondsey, which specializes in native-breed, pasture-fed cattle. Dry-aged for 40 to 50 days, the meat is cooked medium-rare to showcase its intense, beefy flavor. Zan then layers Clonakilty black pudding in the middle and American cheese on top – and finishes it off with a pillowy, toasted sesame seed bun and house-made “secret” burger sauce. Fans wolf it down with the ultimate companion: a serving of Angry Fries – hand cut Maris Piper chips topped with blue cheese and hot sauce.
