Dukagjini is a burektorja, a bakery that makes one thing and one thing only: bureks. These savoury filled pastries can be found in various shapes and sizes throughout the Balkans. Here in the Bronx, the taciturn proprietors of Dukagjini are famous for their circular, pie-like bureks filled with meat, cheese, or (shown) spinach with just a hint of feta and onion. Though the dough that encases the burek is layered like phyllo and crisp on top from its time in the oven, inside its engagingly chewy, like a good strudel.
