Russ & Daughters
In 1907, Joel Russ started his business from a pushcart to cater to the throngs of Jewish immigrants settling in the Lower East Side of New York. In 1914, he opened J. Russ International Appetizers, a storefront around the corner from the current location, the beginning of what would become the landmark Russ & Daughters. A foodie destination for high-end smoked fish, caviar and New York-style specialty foods, sandwich creations include the Super Heebster. Whitefish and baked salmon salad with horseradish dill cream cheese and wasabi flying fish roe is layered on a bagel. There is only one problem. It can get really messy. But hey, who cares about messy when it comes with such amazing yumminess.
