Sandy is a San Francisco Bay area native who doesn't forage in the traditional sense. Instead, she explores the menus of local cafes, restaurants and food trucks, searching out specialties and fabled dishes and sharing them with readers on her blog, Foodhoe’s Foraging, at http://www.foodhoe.com. Occasionally she posts a favorite recipe, but mostly she's out eating and taking photos along the way.

While her posts may resemble restaurant reviews, Sandy says she’s not a critic.

“I am an enthusiast and tend to focus on things I liked about a restaurant or meal. All of these meals are paid for with my own dime, and shhhhh, I admit I regularly peruse the boards at Chowhound for inspiration and occasionally resort to consulting the unreliable oracle called Yelp to research recommended dishes.”

Sandy has an avid interest in photography. She keeps a Lowel EGO Light in her kitchen for taking pictures of food. She also has no less than three cameras.

Her main cameras are: iPhone 4s: “It is indispensable for uploading to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.” Panasonic Lumix G2: “It’s not a DSLR, but accepts interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. My favorite lens for food photography is the Leica 25 mm/1.7. It takes beautiful pictures, but has some serious limitations… like I generally have to be around two to three feet back from the plate for a super close-up shot! I am saving up in my piggy bank for the superfast Voigtlander .95 lens.” Lytro Light Field: “It is small and fits in my purse, so I have that with me almost always. I love the variable depth of field and find myself clicking on the bokeh option in non-Lytro photos with no results.”

Sandy says she often eats at restaurants at night, most of which have dim mood lighting.

“Sometimes I use the flashlight feature on my phone for additional illumination. So, yeah, that crazy person using her phone as a flashlight at the table across the room last night at the restaurant you dined at? That was probably me.”
