The Local Grill

Tucked away in Johannesburg’s Parktown North suburb, The Local Grill is all about meat appreciation. So much so they run a weekly Beef Appreciation Course, where patrons are invited into the kitchen to cook their steaks in a variety of methods, from cooking on heated blocks of Himalayan salt to dropping peat into the grill to add a smoky flavor. The manager is happy to give customers a tour of the ageing room, where many of the grain- and grass-fed beef cuts age on the bone to infuse more flavor during cooking. Steaks are cut to order, rubbed with a blend of freeze-dried herbs and spices and brushed with salted butter while grilling, allowing for the perfect infusion of flavors between beef and rub. The passion in which their beef is prepared is a key ingredient in making The Local Grill quite possibly Johannesburg‘s best steak restaurant.
