Kau Kee (九記)
If you like beef brisket, here’s the place to come. Kau Kee has specialized in the dish for more than 90 years, and you’ll have to look hard to find somewhere to beat it. The brisket in a clear soup broth is nice enough, but if you can handle a bit of spice, go for the curried dish, as it is here that they use all the best parts of the brisket, as well as tendon. You have a choice: unaccompanied beef brisket, or served on a bed of noodles (with your choice of egg or rice noodle). Whatever you choose, you’ll find the beautifully tender meat packed with flavors from being braised in the curry soup. They also make superb Hong Kong milk tea! But here’s a word to the wise. Make sure you avoid peak hours unless you have an hour spare to queue. Popularity has its price.
