Restaurante Carlos

This restaurant is no secret to the local Macanese families who gather here regularly for traditional homemade Macanese dishes. The restaurant, run by Henrique Castilho, an old Macanese chef, serves up delicious, fuss-free authentic cuisine. Specialties include tacho, a winter stew only available in season that is a rich melting pot of meats and vegetables; and the classic minchi, a dish of minced pork and beef with three kinds of soya sauce. Some recipes include Worchester sauce stir-fried with deep fried diced potatoes and topped with a sunny-side-up egg. Other favorites include the clams in a Portuguese white wine sauce and the suckling pig. Cooked perfectly, the pork meat is tender, moist and rich, while the crispy thin skin crackles as you bite through it. Service is friendly and prompt. Restaurante Carlos can be a little tricky to find, but it is about one block from the Guan Yin statue and a stone’s throw from MGM’s taxi stand.
