Shanghai’s home-grown soup dumpling, shenjianbao, is the lesser known cousin of the famous xiaolongbao. At Yang’s original location, these treats are spectacular as the thick, bready buns are pan-fried to perfection, with scalding hot soup and juices inside. Try to nip a hole and suck the juices out or be ready for the scalding soup to explode all over your face and shirt. There are perpetual queues, but the result is worth the wait. Then, cross the street to try the xiaolongbao at legendary Jia Jia Tang Bao.
