Casa Valles is a restaurant in San Sebastián where the world's 1st pintxo: "Gilda" was invented. This classic features Guindilla pickled peppers, Cantabrico anchovies and Manzanilla olives skewered on a stick. It was created in 1946 by Joaquín Aranburu, a customer of Casa Vallés. When they put these common ingredients together he commented they were "verde, salado and piquante" (green, salty and spicy) just like Rita Hayward in her famous green dress in the movie Gilda! The fourth generation now runs this 80-year-old family establishment.
