Restaurant Lt. Cornelis
Pearl Barley 'Risotto'

Lt. Cornelis is just off Spui square in the heart of the tourist center of Amsterdam. It's a hidden gem I recommend to locals as well as visitors who want to try Dutch food. The kitchen takes Dutch dishes and ingredients and gives them a modern twist. Expect plenty of "vergeten groenten" (heritage vegetables) on the menu, alongside local fish (herring and mackerel) and meat (lamb and beef). The restaurant is decked out with replicas of paintings by the Old Dutch masters of the Golden Age and is very atmospheric. Don’t miss the “Alkmaars” pearled barley risotto with barbecued leeks and Messenklever cheese.
