Pianostrada Laboratorio di Cucina
Street food and gourmet sandwiches are all the rage in Rome and nobody does it better in Rome's Trastevere than Pianostrada. The place brings together four women (a mother, her two daughters and a friend) and local organic produce in the heart of Trastevere. With an open kitchen, you'll be mesmerized watching these talented women cook up a storm and everything is made express for you on the spot. As their name suggests, the joint is like a kitchen lab and offers gourmet street food and more for lunch and dinner. Here, they bake all their own bread on site, including the most amazing focaccia that's topped with whatever's fresh and in season, like figs and prosciutto for instance. Do not leave without trying the bacca burger! This signature dish features a baccala (salt cod) patty with confit tomato, zucchini flowers and homemade mayonnaise in a squid ink bun and is truly to die for. Other dishes include a local style fish and chips, porchetta sandwiches, roasted eggplant and vegetable stacks and every day there's a different main course and pasta “special of the day.” This place is super tiny, so get in early at mealtimes to avoid disappointment.
