Barbecue @ La Barbecue
La Barbecue is a very popular, soon-to-be-brick-and-mortar BBQ trailer. The line forms early and gets long but moves efficiently. Hip in person and on social media, la Barbecue, like several other craft joints in town, is open until it sells out. Docked in a food-trailer park on the east side of the interstate downtown, it’s easy to get to. If you’re staying downtown, you can even walk to it. You might be in too much of a meat coma afterward to walk back, but at least you burned some calories getting there.

BBQ @ Franklin Barbecue
What started as a tiny trailer little more than five years ago is now arguably the most famous BBQ joint in the country. Seemingly every major media outlet has profiled owner and pitmaster Aaron Franklin and his brisket, for which people wait in line for hours. Unless you hire someone to wait in line for you (yes, people do this.), clear your schedule, bring some drinks and friends, and make a fun experience out of the wait. If you’re not up for waiting in line, check out their pre-ordering system.

BEEF
Beef Short Rib @ IDES at Persillade
Peter Gunn's (sous chef from famous Attica) IDES perennial pop up at Persillade in East Melbourne has become a Melbourne sensation with a theme of "chaos producing harmony." Gunn serves a menu that messes with your mind and perceptions. The melt-in-your-mouth texture of the slow cooked Cape Grim rib cut made us re-examine how beef can be cooked. The salty, roasted celery was soft and comforting. We wanted this dish to never end (and that's not just excitable blogger hyperbole). This signature dish Beef Short Rib won Gunn the title of S. Pellegrino Young Chef of the Year 2015 at Crown for Asia Pacific.

It takes months to get a seat at chef Peter Gunn's pop-up at Persillade, but the wait is worth the 24-hour slow cooked Beef Short Rib with roast celery vinaigrette.

CHICKEN
Yangnyeom Chicken @ Surakhan
It's easy to see why the Yangnyeom Chicken at Surakhan - Bristol's first Korean restaurant - has become one of the venue's signature dishes. Available in two varieties - sweet chilli or garlic and pepper - we prefer the former: deep fried wings with an amazing crunchy, spicy and sweet coating that cracks open to reveal the most perfectly cooked chicken. Seriously good.

BRUNCH
Shakshuka @ Souk Kitchen
The full English breakfast remains popular, but Souk Kitchen is wowing diners with its Middle Eastern breakfast options. Visit the restaurant - either at its original home on North Street or the newer premises in Clifton - for breakfast or brunch , and try the shakshuka. This dish believed to be of Tunisian origin stars poached eggs in a blend of tomatoes, peppers, onions and spices, served with a homemade flatbread.

BREAKFAST
Tommy's One Pan Wonder @ Rosemarino
Tommy's One Pan Wonder is, without a doubt, one of the finest breakfasts Bristol has to offer. Italian restaurant Rosemarino has won local awards for its breakfasts several years running, and this is its signature dish. Bacon, onions, mushrooms and potatoes are all fried together in a single pan, before two eggs are cracked on top and cooked before being smothered in melted cheese. It's the perfect start to the day.

LUNCH
The Frenchman's Ploughman's @ The Apple
The Apple is a Bristol institution. This well-known cider pub is on a boat moored by the river, and serves about 40 varieties of cider and perry - the region's best-loved drink. Pair a drink with one of their amazing Ploughman's lunches. Traditionally, a Ploughman's consists of cheese, pickle and bread: but try their Frenchman's Ploughman's: brie, duck and peppercorn pâté, onion marmalade, fig relish, bread, biscuits, salad and a pickled onion. The portions are generous for the price.

SWEET
Handmade chocolates @ Guilbert's Chocolates
Bristol has an illustrious chocolate-making history, with Fry's, Elizabeth Shaw and Cadbury all linked with the city. The city's oldest surviving chocolate maker is Guilbert's on Small Street, which opened its first Bristol shop in 1910. Using recipes handed down through the generations, they still make their chocolates by hand, using great quality ingredients and no preservatives.

BRUNCH
Crushed green pea & ricotta pikelets @ Sayers Sister
Easily the venue with the longest lines at breakfast time in Perth is Sayers Sister in Northbridge. Owned and run by husband and wife team (the Sayers), it’s a charming venue with an eclectic mix of furniture and decorations, plus a high long table with cakes, cookies and tarts running down the middle. Some of the highlights for me eating there include their ridiculously indulgent brekky croquettes, their kedgeree and of course their pea and ricotta pikelets with pancetta and poached egg. Crack that precariously balanced white mound and out comes pouring a river of golden goodness, silkily coating the other ingredients and proving yet again why eggs are indeed the rulers of the breakfast kingdom.
