San Agustín Chocolates & Churros
San Agustin’s is an institution with cult status. The dueña, Margarita Gralia, is a beloved telenovela star and the walls in this restaurant are a shrine to her career. The deep-fried pastries, a relative of the doughnut, come in a variety of flavors; chocolate, strawberry, dulce de leche and cajeta. They are usually served plain or sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar when they come out of the fryer. Order a side of Mexican hot chocolate for dunking. Trying to sink every, tiny multi-colored marshmallow that floats on the top of your cup will make you question whether you ever want to grow up; I didn't think so. Life's too much fun as a big kid.
