Café Central
Coffee and Pastry

For the big Vienna coffeehouse experience, worship at the altar of Café Central. Opened in 1876, in the late 19th century it became a key meeting place of the Viennese intellectual scene with its ethereal pastries. The coffee (with obligatory water glass), pastries and tuxedoed waiters are a fundamental part of the Viennese experience. Fully renovated in 1986, the domed, pillared interior boosts a lovely vaulted ceiling and a pianist playing classical music. The chocolate raspberry cake is worth every calorie. Remember the phrase "mit schlag." If you utter this phrase when ordering your coffee, they will include delicious whipped cream.
