Harry's Bar

Founded in 1931 by Giuseppe Cipriani, Harry’s has become legend. The bar has been a celebrity haunt from the start because stars could sneak down a dead-end alley and tourists could not just come across it. Its most famous patron was Ernest Hemingway, who mentions Harry’s many times in “Across the River and Into the Trees.” It lays claim to two towering contributions to gastronomy with the invention of the Bellini, which is three parts white peach puree and one part Prosecco; and beef carpaccio. Carpaccio was invented for the countess Amalia Nani Mocenigo, who was prescribed by doctors to eat raw meat, and was named after a Venetian painter Vittore Carpaccio who was known for the red and white tones in his paintings. "Here they treat people like kings .. and kings like people" ... and the pastas are princely.
