L'Ami Louis

Step back in time at this tiny eatery on the right bank of the River Seine. One of Paris's most famous brasseries in the 1930s, reservations are hard to come by at L’Ami Louis, where celebrities and politicians regularly dine on generous portions of grilled veal kidneys, whole roast chicken with heaps of frites, and tender milk-fed lamb. Forgo dessert in favor of the restaurant’s famous galette de l’Ami Louis: Steamed and fried potatoes, baked with goose fat and butter, are garnished with raw garlic, chopped parsley and black pepper. Under its crisp, golden coat is a piping hot, creamy center. Fans and regulars agree: The high prices and long waits are worth the memories you’ll take away from this temple of rustic French classics.
