Restaurante Vila Joya

Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, Villa Joya (“House of Joy”) is a boutique hotel and restaurant on the coast of The Algarve in southern Portugal near the town of Albufeira. Established in 1982, Restaurante Vila Joya is seasonal, open from March to November. The menu in the open-air terrace dining room changes daily, with an emphasis on local seafood. Popular with German tourists, menus are printed in German, though an English version is available on request. Austrian head chef Dieter Koschina, who was recruited from Salzburg in 1991, gained the restaurant its first Michelin star in 1995 and a second Michelin star in 1999, which it has retained since. In 2014, the restaurant was ranked No. 22 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and the quality of the cooking, views and fantastic Portuguese wines merit every accolade. Stay the weekend at this mini resort by the sea if you can.
