Ama Laxei
Athens’ bar terraces are among its best features, especially at night. The historic Ama Laxei tavern in central Athens has stood for nearly four decades on Kallidromiou Street, the most beautiful street in the Exarcheia neighborhood. The elegant neoclassical restaurant is a favorite with locals, especially on hot evenings when the beautiful courtyard landscaped with bougainvillea and palms is crowded with diners eating and drinking under the stars. The traditional menu includes such highlights as pork sausage with orange juice, mussels with ouzo, fish fillets with a walnut crust, vegetarian fritters and smoked eggplant with yogurt served on hot pita bread.
