Crab is another Guayaquil institution, and the Cangrejals – crab restaurants – fill up every weekend without fail, except for two months of the year, 15 January to 15 February and 15 August to 15 September when there is a ban on the fishing of the crabs. Manny's is one of the oldest and the crabs, cooked in an herby stock with beer are the best in town. The crabs come draped in their herbs and the flesh is perfectly sweet, and at $3 each, it is a perfect excuse to make a mess. Come in an old shirt.
