El Tio Pepe
Chavez Taco

Tío Pepe, a butcher from Guadalajara, moved to Tijuana in 1994 and started preparing tortas ahogadas (a "drowned" Mexican sandwich) from a street cart in the Zona Centro. He then moved to his current space and still sells tortas as well as a variety of other carnitas dishes. The Chavez taco is crafted using costilla (pork rib meat) heaped on top of a warm, house-made corn tortilla. Order it “con todo” (with everything), fresh guacamole and a chunky, spicy pico de gallo are added.
