Hartwood is located in the middle of the upscale Tulum beach strip. It describes itself as “off grid” with solar-powered music and a carbon free footprint. The website suggests a democratic seating policy but it is annoyingly hard to book or get into with erratic e-mail responses and an on and off walk in policy. It was started by a husband and wife duo in 2010. Eric and Mya are Ex-New Yorker's who ditched their fast paced life back home. Food is prepared over an open fire with a wood burning oven and grill. The seafood is from the daily catch from the nearby Bay while other ingredients are locally sourced from Yucatán markets and the Maya farms called Milpas.
