Pies ’n’ Thighs
Pies ’n’ Thighs started in 2006 in the shadow of the Williamsburg Bridge. Originally a beer storage closet, the owners transformed it into a tiny kitchen with six stools, serving huge donuts, two-napkin smoked pork sandwiches and salty, crispy fried chicken. Inspired by classic American dishes, Mexican and Californian cuisine, and the Slow Food movement’s attention to ingredients, Pies ‘n’ Thighs has received several awards, including Best Biscuits in New York by the New York Daily News and Best Fried Chicken in national surveys by Food & Wine and Bon Appétit. It proved so popular, a second location opened in 2015 on the Lower East Side. Fans crave the “insanely good” Chicken Biscuit, a crispy chicken cutlet on a buttermilk biscuit slathered in hot sauce and honey butter.
