Chili is the official state dish of Texas, and Tolbert’s does it best. This bean-free stew with Texas-sized chunks of beef is as pretty to look at as it is to eat. Located in the nearby town of Grapevine, the trek is worth it for a bowl of the “down South” goodness on offer here. One spoonful of this heavenly blend of oregano, cumin, cayenne pepper, Tabasco, garlic and chile peppers and you’ll be begging for more. A touch of masa flour adds a subtle, tamale-taste and thickens the chili.
