Though most known as the home of Mickey Mouse, Orlando is much more than a tourist Mecca. In recent years, the food scene has grown exponentially in Orlando with strong roots in the locally sourced, slow food movement. No wonder as Orlando is surrounded on both sides by coasts that bring in fresh, abundant seafood as well as a thriving farming community. In 2013 alone, 6 chefs from the Orlando area were nominated for the James Beard Award for Best Chef of the South. From gastropubs to Japanese ramen, Ethiopian, Vietnamese banh mi shops, and spicy Sichuan cuisine, Orlando is becoming known more and more for its great food and restaurants.
