RICHMOND

San Francisco

The San Francisco area is an epicurean wonderland where Alice Waters invented farm-to-table dining and area bakeries are as acclaimed as those in Paris for their sourdough bread and pastries. The Mission District is famous for perfectly rolled “silver bullet” Mission Burritos, its many taquerias and colorful murals. Chinese food ranges from dim sum trolleys and mom-and-pop joints to upscale banquet halls and modernist menus. The Italian immigrant population contributed world-class cold cuts, “Ital-Cal” pastas, focaccia and cioppino, invented by Italian fisherman more than 100 years ago. The Ferry Building Marketplace, one of the great food halls of the world, showcases the breadth of the city cuisines all under one roof.
