Drawing from the British tradition and the obvious British influence on the Cape, fish and chips are a favorite meal. The fish loved most in the Cape is large-boned snoek, a member of the barracuda family. Chips or tjips are served in a style known as “slap” or limp as opposed to crispy and doused with vinegar. Calamari and kingklip are also popular. Fish on the Rocks is a no-nonsense eatery and take-away in Hout Bay loved by locals.
