In the city centre, Hemelhuijs is a small space by chef and designer Jacques Erasmus that reflects his impeccable taste, and a seasonal menu based on Afrikaner comfort food – the treats and tastes of his childhood, with modern and thoughtful twists. The frikadelle– meatballs remain a classic on the menu, and the freshly pressed juices are always good. They do great cocktails here too, and the cake display is bound to tempt. Roasted whole cauliflower, sole pan-fried in a spicy granadilla (passion fruit) butter and the open-face beef hamburger are recent favourites.
