Falafel M. Sahyoun

M. Sahyoun is a one-door shop that sells a single sandwich, a majestic wrap of falafel. Opened by Mustapha Sahyoun in 1935, there is a constant line of hungry people waiting to enter the little eatery on Damascus Road just outside downtown Beirut. Once their order is filled, some eat standing on the sidewalk; others sit at the bar. Repeat clients often cozy up in front of a bowl filled with green peppers, alternating the spicy bites with falafel and pickles. Sahyoun’s pita wrap starts with flavorful, light and airy deep-fried falafel balls, topped with freshly cut tomatoes, crunchy radishes, parsley, mint and tartar sauce. The result is an enjoyable crunch of wonders with every bite. Order two sandwiches as one alone won't be enough.
