SEAFOOD
Currumbin Vikings Surf Life Saving Club
Since Queensland’s first surf club was established at Tweed-Coolangatta in 1911, surf clubs have held iconic status. For generations, volunteer surf lifesavers have ensured our safety by patrolling our beaches. Meanwhile, surf clubs have held their own, providing food and entertainment with unsurpassed views of the coastline. Located on Elephant Rock on the beautiful Currumbin Beach, Currumbin Vikings (founded in 1918) is among our most highly regarded surf clubs, enjoying spectacular views up the coast, waves crashing beneath you as you dine on a platter of fresh and cooked seafood.

The service is excellent.

NOODLES
Murrhardter Hof
The kässpätzle (Swabian noodles with cheese) at Murrhardter Hof enjoy a fabulous reputation within the normally sceptical Stuttgart community. Murrhardter Hof cooks this amazing dish perfectly. They start with their homemade spätzle and finish with perfect kässpätzle, crisp on the outside while remaining soft on the inside. If you have the chance to watch a chef scraping some spätzle, you will know why. You need an instinctive feeling and a lot of passion to do this work right. The perfect, creamy kässpätzle also requires a delicious cheese. At Murrhardter Hof, they add the perfect amount to the spätzle, so it sticks perfectly but is not too cheesy. As a side, we recommend the classical mixed salad.

KEBAB
Alaturka
Alaturka serves simply the best kebab in Stuttgart and maybe the best in Germany. Pack your patience, because you will have to queue for about 30 minutes minimum. It is worth every minute. You will get a kebab unlike any other you ever tasted. The owner of this small gem bakes the fluffy bread every day with passion. There is only one skewer daily. When it’s gone, it’s gone. You will also get delicious grilled vegetables like broccoli, carrots, zucchini, eggplants and onions with your kebab. Creamy yogurt sauce, fresh arugula and parsley complete this perfect dish. You also have to try the crispy sigara börek, a stuffed cheese pastry, with garlic yogurt.

FUSION
Kerns Pastetchen
An innovative mix of Swabian and Austrian cuisine is what you get at Kern’s Pastetchen. Owned and operated by Marieluise and Josef Kern for more than 30 years, the couple does everything to spoil their guests. They know many of the diners by name and try to make everyone happy. The atmosphere of the half-timber restaurant is classy yet comfortable and the menu differs on a seasonal base. The Viennese schnitzel is the best you will get in Stuttgart. I also highly recommend the regional dishes, like the filet with white asparagus. The delicious desserts are perfect compositions of classic Austrian sweets. The wine selection is extraordinary.

Adelaide
PIE
Bakery on O'Connell
Bakery on O'Connell is an institution in Adelaide, an award-winning 24/7 SA owned bakery and home of SA's famed Pie Floater. Our state's most iconic food, the Pie Floater is recognized as a South Australian Heritage Icon by the National Trust of Australia. I stuck with the basics and got the original, a traditional meat pie with tomato sauce. The meat pie was turned upside down and submerged within a pool of green pea soup. The tomato sauce added an extra layer of sweetness and punch and the peas were seasoned well. The hidden pie was tasty with a piping hot center of meat filling. The bakery is busy around the clock and pumps out more than 200 products on site throughout the day, so you're always guaranteed freshly baked goodies. Pick from savory pastries, quiches and breads to sweet treats of cakes, slices and doughnuts.

Melbourne
BRUNCH
Cumulus Inc.
Cumulus Inc. is a foodie haven on bustling and stylish Flinders Lane in the Melbourne CBD. The studio vibe attracts the professionals, along with the standout food on offer. The Full English breakfast is a clever dish with quintessential English elements on the plate; brought together with balance of flavor and textures. The Full English consists of farmhouse slab bacon, blood sausage on toast, fried eggs and smoked tomato. What else could you require for a hearty breakfast? The blood sausage is house made and suitably moist, while the thick-cut country-style bacon is indulgent. This is smoky rustic bliss in a breakfast.

BAKERY
Trela Plein
At Trela Plein, a Greek cafe in the up-and-coming Spaarndammerbuurt, you can pick up a slice of bougatsa for just a couple of euros. Essentially, it’s a Greek pastry, stuffed with anything from spinach and feta to minced beef – there’s even a sweet version filled with a mild egg custard, a bit like crème pâtissière. Run by a burly-looking bearded Greek guy, Alex is the sweetest person you’ll meet in Amsterdam.

PASTA
Spaghetteria
Spaghetteria specialises in – you’ve guessed it – pasta. You can’t make a reservation, seating is at one big communal table, and there are only a couple of house wines to choose from. All of this only adds to the experience: simple, no-fills, honest food. The pasta dishes change seasonally (although there’s always a couple of meat-based sauces, a couple of fish-based options, and a couple of veggie pastas) but if you’re in luck and game is on the menu, order it! Think slow-cooked deer ragù with broad ribbons of freshly made silky pasta and lashings of Parmesan – a dish full of bold, peppery flavors. Order a glass of the house red wine on the side and you can’t go wrong.

TACOS
Salsa Shop
Much like Vietnamese food, Mexican cuisine is a recent – but hugely popular – addition to Amsterdam’s culinary repertoire. While most of the best tacos are to be found at pop-ups (the city has been brim-full of pop-ups ever since the economic crisis led to youth unemployment and a low appetite for financial risk), my favourite permanent location is Salsa Shop. Slap bang in the centre of town, just down the street from the buzzing Rembrandtplein, Salsa Shop specialises in three-bites-and-you’re-done corn tortillas with dozens of delicious fillings. As the name suggests, the salsa here is pretty special. Try the fresh peach habanero with your barbacoa taco, the smoky pineapple chipotle with your carnitas taco, or the zingy salsa verde with your grilled chicken taco. They are all spicy and spectacular, and reasonably priced at €8-9 for three tacos of your choice.
