SWEET
Chu Bakery
Chu Bakery opened in mid-2015 with absolute fanfare from the foodies of Perth. There are long lines every weekend (and most days, too) but the wait is worth it. Definitely indulge in their sweet offerings. The Kaya almond croissant and raspberry chocolate croissant are incredible and flaky. The sourdough toast with fresh avocado, whipped feta, seeds and chilli is also fantastic. Definitely worth getting.

NOODLES
Hu Tieu Thanh Liem
The search for a delicious pho in Perth is an exhaustive one, with lots of options. But Hu Tieu Thanh Liem is definitely one of the best I've ever tried. The broth is clear but full of flavour, with oxtail resonating in each mouthful. The beef is tender and melts in your mouth as it heats gently in the soup. There's so much goodness in this bowl of hearty soul warming pho.

Pixel Coffee Brewers is a beautifully designed space that's small and well-formed, with white, turquoise and light-colored wood throughout. They're well known for their coffee (as the name would suggest) but the food is also fantastic! VEGETARIAN
Casa Pepe De La Juderia
Pepe opened his business in 1929 in the heart of the Jewish quarter and quickly earned a reputation for great Cordoba dining. An oasis from the tourists constantly walking by, visitors are greeted by a gorgeous Andalusian patio with lots of colorful plants. Just as inviting is its menu. Fried Aubergine with Honey is a traditional dish in Cordoba, and is either breaded or battered, sliced in rounds or sticks and served with cane sugar honey or salmorejo. At Pepe’s, this culinary staple is beer battered and fried, served crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with just a hint of sweet honey. One unforgettable mouthful will send you straight to eggplant heaven.

FUSION
Noor
Michelin-awarded Chef Paco Morales is opening his newest restaurant in the popular neighborhood of Cañero to focus on the culinary tradition the Arab-Muslim domination (711-1492) left in Andalusia and, most of all, in Cordoba. With an open kitchen overlooking just eight tables in the dining room, reservations are a must.

Choco
Awarded a Michelin star, this contemporary dining room’s minimalist interior of charcoal-color walls and glossy parquet floors highlights the works of Cordovan artist Pablo Rubio. In the kitchen, award-winning Chef Kisko Garcia offers his creative take on regional cuisine that seeks to surprise the diner with such dishes as crispy suckling pig with cream of garlic and oranges and traditionally-caught fresh tuna cooked in pork stock and roasted on an oak log fire. The service is exceptional.

Restaurante Arbequina
Hospes Palacio del Bailio is set in a former 16th-century palace built on the remains of a Roman villa. Restaurante Arbequina, which spills out into the glass-roofed central courtyard, also features a glass floor that gives a view of the Roman ruins in the basement. In contrast, the restaurant’s modern menu features such creations as pumpkin cream with scallops, citrus and artichokes; fillet of wild sea bass with gazpachuelo, mussels and tapioca pearls; and white chocolate truffle with lemon and cranberry cookie.

JEWISH
Casa Mazal
Named with the Hebrew word for good fortune, Casa Mazal is set in the heart of Juderia, the old Jewish quarter, and offers a rare opportunity to sample traditional Sephardi cuisine along with local traditional favorites. Romance is on the menu at this little restaurant, where violinists play Sephardic music on the patio. It also serves such options as berenjena timbal (eggplant and tomato pie), cordero especiado (spiced lamb) and pollo a la miel (chicken with honey, dates and raisins). Wash it down with a bottle of kosher wine, and for dessert consider the rose mousse or ginger ice cream.

TORTILLA
Bar Santos
This little bar across the street from the Mezquita serves what is claimed to be the world’s biggest tortilla de patatas (30 eggs and 5 kg of potatoes). I'm not arguing. It’s damn good. Thick wedges are deftly cut from giant wheels of the stuff and customarily served with plastic forks on paper plates to eat outside under the Mezquita's walls. And while you may have come for the monster tortilla de patatas, stay for a bowl of salmorejo and some of the other home-style tapas offered. It’s a tiny spot with just two small tables (a low one in front of the window, another tall one in the corner) so it’s mostly standing-room-only at the bar. Most people prefer to take their tapas and drinks outside and sit along the low stone Cathedral wall in front of the bar.

OXTAIL
Garum 2.1 bistronmic tapas bar
Set in the Jewish quarter with very traditional decor, this “bistronomic tapas bar” includes an exposed section of Roman wall inside. In the dining room, this historic eatery serves a traditional and informal menu of modern, prize-winning tapas. Be sure to try the tender stewed oxtail, wrapped in pastry and served with a bitter chocolate sauce. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
