MIDDLE EASTERN
Parwana Afghan Kitchen
This mid-sized, family-run restaurant on the outskirts of Adelaide’s Central Business District is a great intro to Afghan food. Parwana is packed at dinner on weekends, and without a booking, people usually are turned away at the door. Pekowrah, a traditional Afghanistan spiced vegetable fritter served with chutney, is a great starter. The mantu, a steamed dumpling stuffed with carrot and sautéed onion, is divine. Popular mains include palaw, a long-grain rice dish with caramelized carrots, sultana grapes, slivered almonds and pistachios; and their signature dish, eggplant slices simmered in fresh tomato sauce, topped with garlic yogurt dressing and garnished with paprika and mint. Intriguing homemade ice creams include saffron, ginger and walnut, and rose and pistachio. The colorful, tasty food is best enjoyed in larger groups so everyone can sample a bit of everything.

INDIAN
Indian Temptations
A constant line of customers filters from the front counter to the entrance at Indian Temptations, while taxi drivers queue outside after long shifts to enjoy its aromatic fare. Known as the best place in town to get authentic, delicious and affordable Indian food, it even has a take-away store open into the wee hours. You can't go wrong with the popular Indian savory snack of samosa chaats, served smashed on a plate with mint, tamarind chutney, chickpeas, yogurt and diced onions. The tandoori chicken and various curries are sublime. Favorites include the butter chicken and beef vindaloo; and the chicken biryani, naan breads and mango lassi are worth a mention. A must-visit for Indian food lovers, you know it's good when native Indians eat there.

PASTA
Malmaison Brasserie
Among the restaurant's great "French brasserie-style dishes" is the Tagliatelle with Truffle Purée. Lightly seared scallops surround hand-rolled tagliatelle -- the creamiest, melt-in-the-mouth pasta ever -- which arrives with just the right amount of earthy truffle so as not to overpower this fabulous dish.
