Live sea urchin is offered prepared in a variety of ways at El Ray and other seafood stands that line the shore of Popotla. A knockout cocktail combines the briny urchin with clamato, tomato, cilantro and Picante salsa. It’s best slurped and enjoyed right there at the stand, within view of the vast and sparkling Pacific. Prices are surprisingly reasonable for this prized delicacy. El Ray is also the best stand to serve Pismo clams. They clean the clams and the firm, flavorful white meat is diced and combined with Clamato, lime, chopped red onion, cucumber, tomato and cilantro and served on the half shell.
