Although it’s a 10kn trek from Sao Paolo’s centre to Zona Norte Deven, locals and visitors alike will make the taxi or car pilgrimage to dine on the dishes prepared by Chef Rodrigo Oliveira. The restaurant’s signature dish, Caldo de Mocotó, is based on a 30-year-old recipe of rich cow's feet stew.

Other standouts include the baião-de-dois (rice and beans) and escondidinho (creamy mashed cassava stuffed with Brazilian jerked beef. Insiders plan their trip in advance, as the wait can be hours on the weekends. While they wait, diners sip on caipirinhas made from an impressive collection of artisan cachaças.

With its warm, relaxed approach, Mocotó proves you don’t need high-end luxury to create a truly unforgettable dining experience and is ExtremeFoodies's Best Restaurant in Latin America 2015
