By ExtremeFoodies on May 11th, 2015

Is there anything better than digging into a mouthwatering piece of pizza? It really is the food of dreams. The ExtremeFoodies Global Awards 2015 celebrated the very best doughy delights on planet earth. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the World's Tastiest Pizza.

1. Winner of World's Tastiest Pizza 2015 - Naples: Margherita - Pepe in Grani

Pepe in Grani, situated 50km from Naples, has become a world-renowned pizza destination. Franco Pepe, the mastermind craftsman behind his delicious pizzas, has painstakingly perfected his closely guarded recipe. Combining ancient techniques and ideal flavors, he has created a masterpiece. He researches and studies the ingredients each day, then develops the dough according to the strength of the flour, the humidity and the temperature. The no-fuss Margherita does not over-complicate the process, but focuses on the finest ingredients, expert skills and Franco's passion to make a delicious, thick-crust pizza. With a combination of light dough and local produce, the Margherita at Pepe in Grani celebrates Italy at its best.

The masterful dough makes the Margherita in Pepe in Grani a worthy winner for World's Tastiest Pizza 2015. The pizza category was full of amazing creations, and all of the nominations from our Food Experts deserve to be celebrated.

2. Chicago: Sausage Pan Pizza - Burt’s Place

Burt Katz has perfected the pan version of Chicago deep dish pizza. The Pequod’s founder is credited with sprinkling grated parmesan around the edge of the crust to then achieve a delicious black char from the cast iron pan. Burt’s require reservations and that you order at least 24 hours in advance so Burt and his wife, Sharon, can source all of their ingredients locally the day you arrive. Cash only, no delivery and closed when Burt is not there. Legend.

Note: We are sad to report that this place is now closed.

3. Boston: Sausage and Garlic Pizza - Santarpio's Pizza

We all want a slice of this action. The pizza here is so old school you will forget everything you have ever learned about Pizza. The sausage and garlic is the house special and should not be missed.

4. Buenos Aires: Fugazetta - El Cuartito

Layers of pure joy; Fugazetta is pizza taken to another level. El Cuartito, founded in 1934 in the Buenos Aires barrio of Recoleta, is one of the oldest pizzerias in the city. Pizzas are cooked in a gas oven, in heavy cast-iron pans, then turned out to serve. The result? A thick crust with a satisfying crunch that houses a tender, airy interior. The menu, in English and Spanish, features 25 pizza combinations. What they have in common: overflowing cheese. The fugazetta – a deep-dish tomato-less pizza with sautéed onions, mozzarella, grated Parmesan, oil and salt. The super-sweet onions, so soft they seem to dissolve, get crisp from the super-hot gas oven while the ample cheeses ooze over the sides.

5. Melbourne: Margherita Pizza - 400 Gradi

The margherita pizza at 400 Gradi got voted as world’s best pizza at the 2014 World Pizza Championships. The restaurant is modern if not chic, the wood oven pizza amazing in the Naples style, and the service engaging with a sense of festivity. This is authentic Italian of the highest order. Quality ingredients, pizza cooked perfectly at 400 degrees for around 90 seconds, and even a pizza dance by the staff several times during the night.

6. New Haven: Fresh Clam Pizza - Zuppardi's Apizza

Clams on a pizza. Has there been a better idea? In a town made famous by Sally's, Pepe's and Modern, the best pizza of all is from neighbouring West Haven. Danny Meyer himself has celebrated the clam pie that is a benchmark for this unusual creation. Unmissable

7. Brooklyn: Cherry Jones - Paulie Gee's

It'll be difficult to top this. Paulie Gee serves up some of the most creative Neapolitan style pies you'll ever find, and many of the pies have fun names (Porkypineapple, Ricotta Be Kiddin' Me). You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but the Cherry Jones is a real highlight.

8. Tokyo: Margherita - Seirinkan

Margherita of tomato and buffalo mozzarella is a simple pizza which insists upon quality ingredients. Cooked to exactly the perfect moment, the middle ingredients melt together and the outside crust is puffy, scorched, and crispy. Just doughlicious.
